Standard e metodi per l'ottimizzazione nella digitalizzazione 3D delle fortificazioni
Pablo Rodriguez-Navarro prof. Pablo Rodfriguez-Navarro
Universidad Politecnica de Valencia
Spagna
Abstract - The three-dimensional digitisation of fortifications may be treated as a specific scenario, that is, fortifications have certain formal, dimensional and typological characteristics, as well as their setting in the territory, which make them worthy of specific study of their digitisation process. This leads us to establish standards and workflows to guarantee the most appropriate application of the chosen methods. This paper aims to analyse the peculiarities of data collection in fortifications, with a emphasis on both big castles and those located on complex orography. At the same time, this paper outlines a process for determining the digitisation resolution standard based on the required scale in order to satisfy the aim of the graphic survey, as well as the recommendations to be considered in the data collection process to obtain it.

Il Castello di Paphos, gli affascinanti, iconici, trascurati, abusati resti di una fortificazione stratificata
Giorgio Verdiani prof. Giorgio Verdiani
Unversità degli Studi di Firenze
Italia
Abstract - The Castle of Cyprus is quite symbolic in between the destinies of restoration, reuse or decay that happen to almost any past fortification: it was built in defence of the city's harbour in the XIIIth century by the Lusignan to replace the Byzantines fortress in 1222. The Venetians destroyed the castle in 1570 and the Ottomans rebuilt it. In time it was used as a fortress, as a prison and later as a salt warehouse. Architecturally, the main part of the castle consists of a large square tower with an enclosed courtyard. Its layout consists of a central hall surrounded by smaller rooms. Out of the main building, an extended system of ruins testifies the past presence of a large fortification of the whole harbour. The castle is now used as a museum, a touristic attraction and for cultural events. The transformation of the port, enlarged with new artificial cliffs alters the context of the site. Using photogrammetry and interpreting the traces left in the masonry the present research will present an architectural evaluation of the various phases of the Castle trying to give an informative structure to this “maybe too much iconic” castle.

Diversi modi di trovare le prime delineationi delle fortezze”. Bastioni all’italiana, alla francese e all’olandese nel Trattato di Fortificatione di Guarini
Roberta Spallone prof. Roberta Spallone

Politecnico di Torino

Italy
Abstract - Guarini's Trattato di Fortificatione provides an up-to-date international overview of military culture and art in the field of tracing the elements of modern fortifications. The bastions, which represent one of its main elements, have been investigated in the present work through the graphic analysis and geometric decomposition of the bastions’ tracings, including the variants found in the treatise. Moreover, graphical reconstructions of all the bastions aim to discover the Guarinian vocabulary of shapes and define the shape of the bastions, the relationship between the shape of the bastion and that of the fortress, and the defensive power concerning the musket’s fire.
